  2. I watched these videos and the overall perspective was that Steven Hawkins believed that are universe was created because of science and evolution. He does not believe there is a creator for all the beautiful life we have. Father Robert Spritzer has been trying to prove to people more and more everyday to why god exists. This is hard for me to watch this because I believe that God is the creator of are universe and he loved us so much that he believed we deserved to live on this earth he created and he would give up his own life instead. I don't completely disagree that science and evolution has nothing to do with it because it does. I just think it is what keeps the inverse going and growing everyday. I think the opinions of the different speakers affect are society today by making people become more confused about what the real truth is. I think the truth is each individual person has the ability to believe what they want and everybody's beliefs are going to be different. I hope people believe God was the creator because without him we would not be blessed with this universe.

  3. Steven Hawking believes that the M-theory can prove the world did not come from God. Mlodinow mainly has the same views. I do believe both of them do not believe in God even though they don't openly say so. I definitely agree with Father Spitzer the most. If a scientist came up to me and told me the world came from pure nothingness I would enevr be able to get my head around that. I definitely think the world has evolved and science is the biggest effect on the world but I believe in God as the creator. I found the most interesting at the beginning Steven Hawking talking about time travel. I think time travel is one of the most interesting concepts of science and it is exciting we are getting closer and closer to it everyday. I thought Deepak Chopra was very lighthearted and I agrees with his views also. I think most of the world would have a really hard time relating to scientists that do not believe in God creating the world and that is just randomly happened

  4. 1) Steven Hawkins believed that our universe was created because of science and evolution.

    2) This hard to watch because I believe that God is the creator and thqt we deserved to live on this earth he created and he would give up his own life instead.

    3) I think everyone should not get mad at people thoughts because everyone thinks different, and I hope that people believe that God is the creator because he created the Universe.

  5. I found it interesting that neither Stephen Hawking or Leonard Mlodinow would directly answer the question as to whether or not they believed in God. We would have to assume that they do not, based on their theories. Stephen Hawking's view is that science can explain the universe without the creator. He says that we are in danger of destroying ourselves by greed and stupidity. Leonard Mlodinow, who coauthored the book, agrees. I was surprised to learn that Deepak Chopra does not think that God created the universe. He says "God became the universe." So, Deepak is agreeing with Stephen Hawking's theory. Father Spitzer obviously does not agree with either of them. Father Spitzer's question to them was "how can something come from nothing?" Father Spitzer says there is proof that God exists. I think that the opinion of these three being interviewed makes people think about their own beliefs. I think though that Stephen Hawking's ideas about creation are not what most people believe or want to believe.

  6. I think the most interesting part about the disscusion is when Stephen Hawking is talking about M theory. I find this intersting because I have always been curious about how the world was created. I dont really lean to one side on how the world was created, I like to kind of put both sides together. Therefore I do not think that the world just came out of no where, or that it was made by some divine being. I think that it is a mix between the two, a higher power helped to push along the creation of the world. But I am not exactly sure. This is just my thought. But as you can see this topic can create a lot of controversy. The opinions given by the experts can create controversy because they are all coming from different sides. There are people who are on the religious side, the science side, and the people in-between. So this can cause a lot of arguments and fights about who is right all because of three peoples input on a subject matter.

  7. I thought the most interesting thing that Stephen Hawking discussed was that the human race is in danger of destroying ourselves with greed and stupidity. I do believe this but i feel that it would be destroyed by the amount of violence and corruption in the world, not a natural disaster that Stephen predicts. With enough dedication I do think that the human race can be unified and at a state of peace. Stephen Hawking's view was more dark but stated that there may be a God, but science gives the write answers and that the human race is in danger of a natural disaster. He also believes in Einstein's theories and that you are able to time travel and live in space with zero gravity. Father Robert Spitzer has a more religious point of view but enjoyed the book that Stephen wrote. Thinks that he likes Stephen's ideas because he considers God as a possibility. Deepak Chobra loved the book and he said it validated everything he knew. He believes that God is the universe, he compares Stephen to Einstein and Robert believes he's smart but he believes some wrong facts. I feel that this believe of God and religion against science does prove to be a contreversal topic in society. I feel that people feel a lack of a creator when they can scientifically prove the ingredients that it takes to create earth and when natural disasters happen along with inhumane actions such as genocides. I definitely believe that religion and science can agree.

  8. I felt that stephen's wisdom covered the root of all of our problems. I do in a sense believe Stephen Hawking's words to be very true, that man is doomed to destroy itself through greed and stupidity. It is evident that man is flawed and we will continue to fight until the end of time, but that doesn't mean that all people are stupid. There are always going to be people making a difference for the good of humanity so there still is hope in that sense. If we properly educate our generation about the history of man's folly we can learn from our mistakes and make people more understanding. That is why stephen is a role model to look up to. Even though he is not a believer, he does state his love for his family and leaves the possibility of God's existence into the question. So even the people who are religious can look up to him and follow both the ideas of science and God.

  9. What seemed to be the most interesting part of these discussions.
    2. Please describe the viewpoint expressed by each of the presenters.
    3. How do you think these opinions affect our society?

I think the most interesting part was the debate over weather God actually does exist or not.
    2. Mr Hawkins was talking about how science has an answer for everything in our universe, and that he believes God does not exist. But he does not know if there is a God or not out there. Fr Spritzer believed that God is the answer for everything in the universe. Everything is an answer for why and not how, according to him. The last movie explained about how there is a balance between everything. No one knows for sure if there is a God or not. We will probably never know until we die.
    3. These opinions affect our society today by giving us many religions and faith. There will be alot of debates and get in fights over the different ideas, especially hawkins belief that science is the only way the universe is created. People hate this belief.

  10. The most interesting thing to me about these videos is that Stephen Hawking was so accepting of other peoples beliefs. Even though he doesn't believe in God, he doesn't ridicule others, he understands there point but it seems that he needs to have reasoning and numbers instead of just belief. Also, Stephen Hawking put reason into ideas that many see as absurd (i.e aliens). the main way these opinions affect our society is the ever lasting argument between science and religion.

  11. 1. I found the most interesting part of the discussions the question of something coming from nothing and Hawking’s view that essentially while there may be a God, science does not need him.
    2. Hawking felt that M theory answers essentially the questions and meaning of life, and that while there may be a God, science is independent of him. Father Spitzer continuously referred to the question of something coming from nothing in order to explain the need for a creator. He also mentioned the possibility of two worlds or dimensions where the soul is independent of the laws of science. Chopra somewhat leaned towards the philosophies of Hawking but decided that the workings of science are essentially God. Mlodinow shared Hawking’s philosophies and defended their book, saying that they were not trying to remove the possibility of God.
    3. In terms of society, I believe that people of medicine or science often look for technical explanations and prefer facts to faith. Philosophers and those specializing in psychology or psychiatry often question the existence of God and lean towards Hawking’s philosophy. The grand majority, however, all believe in the existence of God. Those who choose science over God remain in the minority and are often attacked for their views. People with the philosophy of Fr. Spitzer offer a fresh approach, combining science and religion. The “culture war” is a hot point of debate in today’s time, and as more people slowly begin to replace God in favor of science it will be interesting to view the effect it takes on accepted morals and behaviors.
